Problem Statement

The Universal Recycling law (Act 148) creates new regulation concerning the disposal of organic waste. For large contributors, disposal may be a streamlined process but smaller businesses and organizations may need some help figuring out what to do with food if they can't just throw it in the trash anymore.

Project Summary

We are creating a simple web application that will walk users through a simple decision tree to help them determine what the proper method of disposal is for a given type of organic waste.  The application will also provide them with a list of geolocated facilities in their area that will accept the product.

By eliminating organic matter from our waste stream, Vermont can reduce the volume of landfill contents by 28%, and combined with propper recycling we can reduce our waste by half[1]!  The contents of the average Vermonter's trash can looks like this:
