CourtBot

Problem Statement

Missing a court date is a serious offense—even if it was unintentional. If a bench warrant has been issued, you not only risk arrest, but you may soon be facing hefty fines and a length license suspension as well. In addition to the obvious problems for citizens, failures to appear in court are expensive for municipalities and public service departments too. The notices currently handed out on slips of paper and sent through the postal system are an insufficient mechanism for both Vermont and vermonters.

Project Summary

Several other Code for America brigades have sucessfully implemented a tool called CourtBot that will monitor and remind citizens of their court dates.  To use this tool, a person simply submits their name or case number.  CourtBot monitors publically available listings of court dates and infractions and sends text updates and reminders to individuals.
